Kiefer Sutherland: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

And 5 That Sucked...

5. Bosco - Marmaduke

Given that so much of what makes Kiefer Sutherland so great relates to his distinct voice, we thought it would make sense to shine a light on a voice-reliant role that didn't go quite so smoothy; that of Bosco in Marmaduke, which pretty much showcases what it looks like when an actor phones in a voice performance. The movie itself, based on the dog-themed comic strip of the same name, is downright terrible, and absolutely everybody involved hopefully felt ashamed when they saw the finished product. There's not an ounce of creativity in the whole thing. And that extends to the voice cast, who all seem to have been picked as the "easy" go-to choices for this sort of thing. We need a Hollywood actor who's already voiced the lead character in every second animated film ever made and can be Marmaduke? Owen Wilson! A mexican cat? Get George Lopez, of course. And now we need someone who sounds tough for this bad guy dog character? How about that guy from 24? Kiefer Sutherland? Great! There's a sense, then, that Sutherland simply turned up, read his lines in one take, and got the hell out.
