Logan Reviews: 11 Early Critical Reactions
9. There's An Interesting Political Edge
"Even though the film was shot a year ago...it somehow predicted many of the existential crises America is currently facing in the current post-election landscape." - IGN
"The fact Laura is of Hispanic origin and is being hunted down by a military group gives the film a topical tang, which is also detectable in the plot’s use of national borders, which become thresholds to redemption. The United States feels less like the Land of the Free here than a vast open prison, and Logan and Laura’s race northwards to safety has the knife-edge tenor of a jailbreak." - Daily Telegraph
Considering that the X-Men movies were some of the first superhero films to trade in weighty themes, namely prejudice against a class of people, it's apt that Logan is itself a political film, with many critics noting the film's unavoidable political leanings, creating a wasteland that resembles an extremely heightened, exaggerated version of the flagrant racism and fear running rampant in contemporary America.
Expect many think-pieces on the film to emerge when Logan hits cinemas in a few weeks, as all sides of the political spectrum scramble to interpret it to suit their own agenda.
