10. The Black Cat (1981)
Supposedly based on Edgar Allen Poe's classic story of the same name, The Black Cat is a fair to middling Lucio Fulci film. It is watchable and you may enjoy it but you won't enjoy it so much that you will feel impelled to sit down and write a raving review of it. The plot, as I remember it, is some psychic chicanery with the titular black cat who has been involved with several deaths in the village. It turns out the cat's owner can telepathically control the moggy to go a-killing his enemies. When some suspicious nosy people turn up, the cat aint a happy little kitty. Not especially scary, the scenes where the cat has a spazz out and attacks and kills humans look terribly silly in the light of today's special effects. But God bless Lucio. He did what he could. The script is terribly convoluted and talky which reduces the tension. There are some atmospheric sequences but I think the only people who will be watching The Black Cat will be hard core Giallo enthusiasts or Fulci completists.
