5. Nightmare Concert/Cat in the Brain (1990)

I absolutely adore Nightmare Concert. If I could, I would put it at number 1 in the list due my adoration but it would probably displease Fulci enthusiasts because realistically it is a pretty crappy film. But my goodness it is a joy to behold! In the film, Fulci plays himself, a horror film director who is plagued by visions of the violence he has filmed. He goes to a crazy psychiatrist for help, but the shrink hypnotises him. There is a series of brutal murders committed on young women - is it Fulci? Is it the psychiatrist? What on earth is going on in this insane movie? In this self-reflexive film, Fulci insets footage from his earlier films such as Ghosts of Sodom (I once referred to this film as Ghosts of Sodomy in a film forum and they did not let me live it down). There are some hilarious sequences of Fulci - the filthy pervert - directing his own films: "Lick it! Oh yes! Do it harder! Harder! That's right!". This is joyous to behold for the perverts among us. At the end of the film, Lucio is in peril but manages to escape in an extremely cheesy finish - jetting off in a boat whilst clicking champagne glasses with a beautiful model. So it's okay then Lucio for everyone else in your movies to have depressing endings you cheesemeister hypocrite? Simply awesome!
