Luke Ending The Jedi: 10 Things It Could Mean For Star Wars VIII
9. The Balance Of The Force
The idea of Luke merging the light and dark sides of the Force harks back to a concept tabled by the divisive Star Wars prequel trilogy: the balance of the Force.
Abolishing the Jedi and replacing them with a new order that occupies the middle of the spectrum ties in neatly with this ideal, and suggests the sequels are forging closer ties with Episodes I to III.
They could also be adding elements of the Rebels TV show, as the notion of Force users with knowledge of its light and dark sides has been explored in the animation.
Bendu, who was introduced in season three, is an immensely powerful being who represents the middle of the Force between its two extremes. He believes that the convergence of the Sith and Jedi holocrons has the potential to produce "clarity of vision", but also chaos - so let's hope Luke knows what he's doing.
What Skywalker has presumably realised is that balance cannot be achieved through Jedi ideals and rejecting the Dark Side alone, but by facing one's fears, conquering them and becoming more enlightened for it.
Bendu refuses to be drawn into conflicts, always remaining as neutral as Switzerland because taking sides is seemingly beneath him. If all Force-sensitive beings were like him, wouldn't that be a step closer to peace in the galaxy?
Luke could really be onto something.
