Man Utd Transfers: 11 Signings Louis Van Gaal Must Make Immediately
5. Kevin Strootman
Current Club: Roma United's midfield needs a serious overhaul, even with Fellaini surely likely to have a better second season (if he stays around), and though the next manager should definitely be looking to build their team around Adnan Januzaj, the majority of the rest of the midfield (aside from Juan Mata) could be classed as expendable or backup, including those like Zaha, who are yet to play any big part at the club. According to the Daily Star, Van Gaal has identified Romas Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman, 24, as one of his key targets, though the player is currently recovering from knee surgery. It's likely that Van Gaal's impending employment will lead to every Dutch player with anything about them being linked with a move to Old Trafford, but in Strootman, they would legitimately be picking up one of the national side's prized assets, assuming he's able to recover speedily from the cruciate ligament injury that wrecked his World Cup. Until his injury, Strootman was one of the best performing players in Italy, and his dynamism and athleticism would be exactly the additions to United's squad that Moyes sought to add with the addition of Fellaini last summer.
