Marc Forster accepts offer to direct Bond 22

Character driven dramatic helmer of MONSTER'S BALL and FINDING NEVERLAND to helm the next Bond adventure!

aviatorprec.jpgLast month, we reported a list of directors who Columbia Pictures had shortlisted to helm the next James Bond movie, with Marc Forster said to be top of that list and at that time it was even claimed he had been offered the job. Well according to a press release from the studio and posted online by Coming Soon, he has indeed accepted this offer and he will be directing the currently untitled Bond 22 which will be in cinema's November next year. Let's take a look at the guy's filmography then. Monster's Ball in 2001, Finding Neverland in 2004, Stay in 2005 and then Stranger than Fiction last year. One thing that's clear from his body of work is that he can work fast (3 movies in the last 3 years is a testament to this) but also not lose his integrity in the process as all three were reviewed quite favourably. I've only seen Monster's Ball and Finding Neverland but my impression of Forster is that he is great character director who can tell a character study of his protagonist in an interesting and tight way. Is that why he has been given the job, so we can get closer to Daniel Craig's Bond? He doesn't seem to have one action sequence on his CV at all, so maybe we are set for a more character driven story in Bond 22, which I'm all for actually. Filming on Bond 22 is set to begin on December 7th at Pinewood Studio's in London and as Casino Royale made over $600 million worldwide and became the most successful Bond movie in the history of Cinema's most successful franchise... it goes without saying this is the biggest thing director Marc Forster has ever worked on. No pressure dude!
