Mark Hamill: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
2. Max Reed - Guyver
Live action anime is almost always terrible (any Dragonball: Evolution fans out there?) and this adaptation of The Guyver is one of the very worst. It plays out like a nightmarish episode of Power Rangers, with the plot featuring a teenager who can turn into a cyborg who must defeat monsters for reasons that are too convoluted to get into. Hamill plays a CIA agent who tries to help the hero and expose an evil corporation, and hes blindingly miscast. Hes not convincing in the least as a gruff, gun-toting badass and watching him attempt it is just cringe inducing. His character is eventually turned into a giant cockroach by the evil corporation - which is admittedly a cool effect though he must have felt depressed during filming that his career had led him to that particular moment. Hamill was the only name actor in the cast so the distributor tried to trick people into thinking he played The Guyver himself, by morphing his face into the characters mask on the front cover. It didnt work; people stayed away from it in droves.
