Mark Hamill: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Luke Skywalker - The Star Wars Holiday Special

The Holiday Special of Star Wars is legendary; George Lucas has disowned it, Harrison Ford likes to deny it exists and Carrie Fisher uses it to clear people out of her house at the end of a party. Since it was first aired it has never been rebroadcast, and Lucas won€™t allow it to be released officially on DVD €“ a rare example of him not exploiting every revenue stream imaginable. Some people might question if it can really be that bad, to which the only reply can be: yes, it really is. Nobody comes out of the it with their dignity intact, but Hamill is really poor despite only having a few minutes of screentime. He appears when Chewbacca€™s family (please, don€™t even ask) call him to find out where Chewie is. Hamill €“ complete with a terrible haircut and layers of make-up €“ stares directly at the screen, making the viewer believe he€™s staring directly into their very souls. He delivers some horrible dialogue right into the camera and flirts a little with Chewbacca€™s mother, and it all makes for very uncomfortable viewing. Despite his best fake smile Hamill looks miserable performing his scenes, which might explain why Luke is barely in the show. What are some of your favourite Mark Hamill performances? Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
