Mark Hamill: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

3. Reverend George - Village Of The Damned

John Carpenter€™s remake of Village Of The Damned is definitely one of the director€™s weakest offerings; it lacks the scares or tension needed to make it work, and the cast all seem to be acting in a different movie from each other. Out of all the miscast actors though, no one is more out of place than Hamill as a crazed priest. The character is gradually driven crazy by the presence of the evil children in the town, though he€™s creepy and aloof before they even appear. His big scene is when he gives a speech about the nature of good and evil to the village, and he€™s not nearly as commanding as he needs to be to sell the dialogue. When he takes it upon himself to try and kill the children he just comes across as a monster, even though he€™s technically trying to save the village. It should be a disturbing scene about a man€™s moral breakdown; instead, the audience will be cheering the children on when they force him to shoot himself instead.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
