He's a Marvel villain, so he has a worse chance than normal to not make it through his first appearance. The studio has a pretty well-established trend of killing their big bads and moving on to the next one rather than stringing them along for multiple movies. Thanos and Loki being the obvious exceptions of course, but they have their own circumstances.
Also, do you really think there's a chance Michael Keaton signed on for multiple movies after initially passing on the job?
