Marvel Cinematic Universe: Definitive Guide To Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And Foreshadowing

The Avengers

4. The Shawarma Restaurant Is Seen In The Final Battle

If you wondered where Iron Man thought up that the team should have some post-battle shawarma, it's probably here. While fighting the Chitauri, Iron Man goes past a takeaway joint promoting the tasty meat, subconsciously planting the idea in his (and an ad-libbing Robert Downey, Jr.'s) head.

3. Stan Lee Cameo

During the post-Battle of New York montage, Avengers-mastermind Stan Lee pops up again to flippantly dismiss the existence of superheroes on the news. Originally, Lee was going to cameo earlier in the film as a cafe patron who chastises Steve Roger's sub-standard flirting, but that was lost when the whole "man out of time" subplot was cut.

2. Avengers Tower Blueprints

The film ends with Tony Stark beginning work on transforming his "monument built to the skies with his name plastered on" into Avengers Tower (possibly inspired by only the A of his name surviving the battle). As well as showing space for a Quinjet hangar, the blueprints reveal that each hero will get their own special quarters (a whole floor each?), designated by their own little icon.

1. Thanos Courting Death

The mid-credits scenes serves as something of a twist to the film, revealing that mad Titan Thanos has been behind all of Loki's scheming. The Other warns that to meddle with humans is to "court death", causing Thanos to smirk to camera. Is he smiling because human resistance was exactly what he wanted or is he, like in the comics, literally trying to get romantically involved with death herself? That'll have to wait until Avengers: Infinity War.
