Marvel Cinematic Universe: Every Project To Be Excited For In 2019 (And Why)
4. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 6
Release Date: July 2019
It hasn't been easy being an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fan, as each new season has felt as though it could be its last with ABC ready to swing the axe without hesitation as it did to Agent Carter. But here we are, five seasons in, and the show's future is more secure than ever, as the series not only has its sixth season arriving this summer but has already been renewed for a seventh.
With the show's sixth season, we're entering new territory, as season five felt like a definitive end of an era that saw the exit of Phil Coulson from the series and the start of something new, as the team set out to both retrieve the original Fitz and forge a new future for S.H.I.E.L.D. And beyond that, the show's arrival in the summer, following the events of Avengers: Endgame, raises many questions as to how it'll cope with the aftermath of that big film, particularly since the fifth season finale managed to skirt showing how The Decimation impacted the team by ending sometime before Thanos snapped his fingers.
Whatever happens, it's a sure bet that the series - now armed with a 13-episode arc rather than the standard 22-episode run - won't disappoint, as the show has become a master of reinvention, never content to settle into a rut. Whether it's dabbling in alternate realities, traveling through time, exploring alien planets, or dealing with the supernatural, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has always proven it's willing to swing for the fences, which makes the potential for where season six can take its characters - and us - next all the more exciting.
