5. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 3

MCU 2016
ABC

The back half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s third season this year saw the team going up against its biggest threat yet. Despite Grant Ward being killed off in the show's midseason finale, Hive took over his body and managed to return to Earth, where he spent the rest of the season taking control of Inhumans - including Daisy, no less - on the road to setting off a warhead.

In essence, Hive's presence on the show demonstrated how far it had come from its early days and how comfortable it has become in its own skin. From introducing the Watchdogs to expanding on a different branch of HYDRA to its sending off of Bobbi and Hunter to introducing Yo-Yo and Holden Radcliffe and so much more, the second half of season three covered a lot of ground without missing a beat, gifting the show with one of its coolest, most engaging runs yet.

The season finale, which saw the deaths of Lincoln Campbell and Hive, was incredibly effective, and their final scene together - floating in the quinjet out in space - was one of the show's best singular moments to date, in particular a great send-off for Brett Dalton, who'd been with the series from the beginning. For those of us who've grown attached to these characters and their place in the MCU over the last few years, season three only solidified those feelings even further, taking risks that continue to enjoyably pay off.
