Marvel Phase 3: Predicting The Villains

3. Captain Marvel (2019) - The Black Order

This is where it gets interesting, and a little challenging. Carol Danvers has had links to both the earthbound Marvel echelon and the more cosmic heroes, so there are possible links to Guardians Of The Galaxy and The Avengers here. She€™s a US Air Force veteran who gets her DNA in a swizz with some Kree genes after an accident (when I have an accident I stub my toe and hop around making Modok faces until the pain goes away. In comics, you get to fly and have laser breath. Completely unfair). Marvel has made noises about wanting to move away from having origin stories in every single film, and certainly the good Captain€™s beginnings can be explained away in a quick cut away, or even as a throwaway oneliner if they want to be flippant. That means she could well make her first appearance in a movie before her own €“ maybe Avengers: Infinity War Part I, since James Gunn doesn€™t seem keen on superhero team-ups €“ and bring one or more of their more cosmic villains back with her. They€™re a very recent addition to the Marvel mythos €“ but what about the Black Order? Thanos€™ very own wetworks squad, they€™re likely to make an appearance in one of more the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies simply to give the heroes extra people to hit. Why not have them crop up here, too? The Black Order are a five-strong team comprising vicious powerhouse Black Dwarf, his brother, immortal warrior Corvus Glaive, sinister genius Ebony Maw, unstable psychic vampire Supergiant and cosmic ninja Proxima Midnight (Corvus€™ Glaive€™s wife). That€™s plenty of powerful fun to be getting along with, especially if Captain Marvel has the help of one or more other Marvel heroes €“ like Black Panther, for example. An even better reason to use the Black Order would be that one of Carol Danvers€™ major storylines in the comics is the absorption of her powers and psyche by the future X-Man Rogue, leaving her amnesiac and powerless until she gains all new abilities as the cosmic hero Binary. Rogue can€™t appear here, as an X-Men character €“ Fox own her skunk-coloured Dolly Parton wig and everything attached to it. But Supergiant has very similar abilities to Rogue€ I won€™t be fantasy casting all five of the Order, of course €“ as henchmen to the big bad, they don€™t need to be name actors.
