Matthew McConaughey To Lead Chris Nolan's Interstellar?

Matthew McConaughey Mud In somewhat of a surprise, Matthew McConaughey has been offered the lead role in Christopher Nolan's new sci-fi movie Interstellar. Deadline reports that should the actor accept (which at this point looks nailed on... why would he turn down a Nolan flick???), he would play a character named Cooper. Given Chris Nolan's usual agenda of secrecy, that's just about as much new info as we can probably expect for a long while. If the deal becomes official it would truly signal a huge shift in McConaughey's career, moving firmly away from the Hollywood dredge and/or movies where he was solely cast to take off his shirt, and firmly into the Brad Pitt/Leonardo DiCaprio realm of working mostly with auteurs (his recent directors include Richard Linklater, Steven Soderbergh, Martin Scorsese and William Freidkin). Written by Chris' brother Jonathan Nolan (Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight) years ago but only recent taking the Inception director's interest, the movie tells the story of a group of explorers who go through a wormhole and will deal with time travel and alternate dimensions. Or as it has been put officially;
The film will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding.
Originally based on scientific theories by Caltech physicist and relativity expert Kip S. Thorne (who is executive producing), the movie has changed gears from what Jonathan original wrote as Chris Nolan boarded with his own original ideas and it's now a mixture of two ideas. Simply put, it is probably the most exciting original sci-fi movie since Prometheus. Interstellar will hit IMAX and non-IMAX theaters on November 7, 2014 as a joint Paramount and Warner Bros production.
