3. What Is Alexei's Relationship With Captain America?
Even before being brought out to join Kevin Feige on stage in Hall H, it was widely reported that David Harbour would be involved in the Black Widow project. The Stranger Things star was tipped to be swapping Hawkins for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was confirmed at Comic Con, along with the character Harbour will be playing - Alexei aka The Red Guardian.
This character has been described as Russia's answer to Captain America, and the actor himself has said we will find out about his complicated feelings towards Steve Rogers. This is a very vague statement, and has only raised more questions.
Why does Alexei have these feelings towards Cap? Does he blame his American counterpart for sending Natasha into hiding, or does he actually have a past relationship with him? In the comics Alexei Shostakov has been shot while saving the life of Captain America, and has also been on the opposing side to Rogers.
Since we know very little about the character, and the movie in general, anything could happen in Cate Shortland's film. Regardless, it is sure to add another layer to the MCU, and even Natasha's relationship with Steve.
