Officially speaking, Doctor Strange has three credited writers; Jon Spaihts, Scott Derrickson, and C. Robert Cargill. But to say it was a film with a lot of cooks in the kitchen would be a bit of an understatement, as tons of different writers took passes at this thing before it eventually became what it was.

Turns out, one very notable writer even took a final pass at it just before production at Marvel’s request: Dan Harmon.

Harmon rose to fame as the writer and showrunner of innovative and revolutionary comedy shows such as Community and Rick and Morty and was brought in to do one final tightening of the script. Marvel credited this to their admiration of how Harmon wrote increasingly complex sci-fi concepts into thirty minute episodes of Rick and Morty without ever losing the audience.

This all makes even more sense considering that the Russo brothers, the directing team behind everything from Captain America: Winter Soldier to Avengers: Endgame, earned the job of directing with Marvel initially thanks to their directing work on the paintball episodes of Community with Harmon.
