MCU: 10 Supernatural Characters Who Will DOMINATE Phase 5

3. Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider Danny Ketch
Marvel Comics

Ghost Rider's had a bit of a turbulent history in live action over the last couple decades. Nicolas Cage - and bless him, truly and deeply, for genuinely loving that character - had two unfortunate turns as Johnny Blaze in 2007 and 2011 respectively, and while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. yielded better results with Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes, a spin-off series involving the character was canned shortly after its announcement in 2019.

There's still a definite chance that Luna's Reyes could have a part to play in the MCU's future, and although Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans are no doubt hoping for that outcome, it might be time for Marvel to start again and introduce another Rider to the on screen canon in Danny Ketch.

Johnny Blaze might be Marvel's most iconic Rider in terms of big screen appearances, but Ketch is actually the longest running character to bear the Spirit of Vengeance and the one who most influenced the two big screen adaptations to date.

It'd be great to see him in the MCU, sporting the gnarly blue flame skull introduced during Simon Spurrier and Javier Saltares' run on the character, and given he's such an icon of Marvel Comics, you have to think a big screen revival can't be far.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
