MCU: 12 Things You Learn Rewatching Thor: The Dark World
3. Thor: Ragnarok Makes Loki's "Death" Better
Back when The Dark World was released, Loki's "death" was a pretty lame, predictable fake-out at a point where the MCU was really starting to struggle with the notion of stakes and presenting death as something with genuine weight (especially after Agent Coulson's [Clark Gregg] resurrection).
Rewatching the movie, though, Loki's demise is actually a good deal more entertaining thanks largely to Thor: Ragnarok, which memorably had Loki (in disguise as Odin) hire actors to perform the scene for his own amusement.
The fact that Loki was played by Matt Damon, and director Taika Waititi smartly opted to replicate the exact same shot from The Dark World, makes it practically impossible to watch the original scene without thinking of Damon's face.
In isolation it's still a transparent not-death, but at least we now have some additional comedic context that makes it way more fun to sit through.
