MCU: 12 Worst Casting Decisions In Marvel Movies
3. Christopher Eccleston – Malekith
As one of the least loved films to emerge from the MCU there’s a lot of not so complimentary things to say about Thor: The Dark World, from its relatively dull plot to its focus on style over substance. One thing that definitely stood out like a sore thumb, however, was Christopher Eccleston’s turn as pointy-eared Dark Elf villain Malekith.
In his defence, Eccleston didn’t have a great deal to work with. Malekith is quite possibly the most one-note of all Marvel villains, with only one goal in life: to destroy the universe. He doesn’t really elaborate much beyond this, but reminds us throughout the film with lines such as “I will put an end to this poisoned universe” and “Have you come to witness the end of your universe?”. Okay mate, we get it, you’re evil.
On the other hand, Eccleston gave such a garden-variety performance, and delivers his lines with such disinterest, that under all that makeup and CGI it could’ve literally been anyone.
