MCU: 12 Worst Casting Decisions In Marvel Movies
1. Terrence Howard – James Rhodes
While it’s possible that our view of Terrence Howard could well be tainted by the scandalous details that are forever emerging about both his professional conduct and personal life – being difficult on set, allegations of spousal abuse and inventing his own number theory, Terryology are just a few examples – the truth is that he just wasn’t a good fit as Iron Man’s bestie James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes.
Far from the commanding and capable comic book Rhodey fans knew and loved, Howard’s incarnation comes off more as a whiny, nagging housewife than Tony Stark’s trusty comrade. And lord knows Tony doesn’t need another nag in his life – he already has Pepper Potts for that.
Luckily, behind the scenes ructions sorted this misguided casting out itself and Howard was replaced by the time Iron Man 2 rolled around (some say because of his notoriously difficult attitude on set, some say because Marvel want to underpay him) by Don Cheadle, who quite frankly makes a far better fit for the role.
