MCU: 15 Huge New Details Marvel Just Revealed At Comic Con
6. Laurence Fishburne Is Black Goliath - Ant-Man & The Wasp
Along with Michelle Pfeiffer joining the Ant-Man sequel cast as Janet Van Dyne, SDCC also came with the news that legendary actor Laurence Fishburne is also in as Dr Bill Foster. That name should set off all sorts of delicious alarms for Marvel fans, as he's the alter-ego of Black Goliath (the other Giant Man from the comics).
Foster was a scientist - and a contemporary of Hank Pym - who went on to become Black Goliath (and Giant-Man when Pym gave up the hero game) and was infamously killed in the Civil War comic arc. Quite what his role here remains to be seen, but there might be a hint in the fact that minor villain Ghost - an industrial saboteur hired by business rivals - is also involved (as played by Black Mirror's Hannah John-Kamen).
Presumably, she's going to need a employer...
Could Black Goliath here be reimagined as a villain? Marvel have a habit of introducing villains who directly mirror their heroic counterparts: Iron Man has faced three, in the shape of Obediah Stane, Justin Hammer and Aldrich Killian; Cap faced the Winter Soldier and Red Skull; Ant-Man faced Yellowjacket... For them to introduce Foster as an inversion of Giant Man (perhaps as a dark morality tale about the dangers of the powers), it would follow that trend, and him being a rival Giant Man would explain why an industrial saboetur is involved.
