MCU: 15 Huge New Details Marvel Just Revealed At Comic Con
5. Heimdall Goes Missing - Thor: Ragnarok
It has been widely speculated that Heimdall will be making his exit in Thor: Ragnarok, with some believing that he is the owner of the Soul Stone and as such is way too key to Thanos' story to survive. Him dying would also explain how Hela is able to basically swan into Asgard, since he's pretty much one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy, solely engaged in guarding the door to Asgard.
There's a little hint of some of the events that actually set up that invasion thanks to Karl Urban, who appeared at San Diego to talk about his character Skurge, who forms part of Hela's forces. According to him, he begins the film as an ally of Thor (or at least Loki), who switches sides when faced with death or joining Hela.
And from what he told IGN, we know that Heimdall isn't around to protect the planet:
"When we find Skurge, he's operating the Bifrost because Heimdall is missing in action, and then pretty soon after that Hela shows up. Skurge sees the writing on the wall and has to make a decision whether to die or join her, so his instincts of self-preservation take over."
So where is he? We've seen him in the trailers, apparently on a forest-like planet. Could he be searching for Odin? Has Loki banished him knowing he would stay loyal to the All Father and Thor? Or is he killed off early on because he gets in the way too much? It's all very intriguing.
Also, as a side-note, that change of allegiance also foreshadows Skurge's big redemptive heroic turn in the comics that saw him die by Hela's hand. It's bound to happen again here.
