Part of the announcement of Captain Marvel's 90s setting and Skrull villains also included the revelation - from Kevin Feige no less - that Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury will have two eyes in the film. Ignoring the fact that he has two eyes in the contemporary MCU movies (just one of them doesn't work so good), that means Captain Marvel is going to be a double origin story.

Firstly of Carol Danvers becoming Captain Marvel, and secondly of Nick Fury's eye-patch. Exciting.

It is one of those mysteries that it'll be nice to see explored, and it also suggests that we'll see a de-aged Jackson in the same vein as the de-aged Michael Douglas and Robert Downey Jr seen in Ant-Man and Civil War. With technology that impressive, it would be rude not to use it, even if Jackson has barely aged a day in about 30 years...

Presumably, as well as discovering how he become monocular, we'll get to see what SHIELD were doing during the 90s, what their involvement was in the Skrull/Kree war and why that potential invasion wasn't enough to make them develop the super-weapons they decided were necessary when Thor and the Destroyer appeared in Nevada years later... Shhh, nobody will notice that plot-hole, don't worry.

Excitingly, this might mean we'll get to see other period SHIELD characters like Peggy Carter, Howard Stark and the de-aged Hank Pym/Ant-Man. Because otherwise, they'll all have to be away on business simultaneously or something not to appear.Captain Marvel" will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
