13. What Was Iron Monger's Plan?
The antagonist of Iron Man, Obadiah Stane, is desperate to duplicate Tony Stark's arc reactor so he can power his own armoured suits. When his staff fail to replicate the technology, he rips the arc reactor out of Stark's chest and then uses it for his personal Iron Monger outfit. After armouring up, Stane rampages through Los Angeles and attempts to kill civilians, Pepper Potts, and Iron Man.
Okay, let's say he succeeded in killing his rival during this climatic battle.... then what? He just very publicly attacked a city, endangering thousands of people. Did he think he would get away with that? He would obviously be arrested immediately after.
This plan makes even less sense since Stane has proven to be a genius who has planned to take over Stark Industries for 30 years. If he's so astoundingly intelligent, why did he think running around in a robot suit while shooting missiles and hurling cars would help with his scheme?
