MCU: 20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Avengers

5. Half A Planet

The Avengers Thanos
Marvel Studios

There is no better villain in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe than Thanos, and even widening this to the entire comic book movie genre, he is still up there with the best of them. Part of this comes down to how the anticipation for his first real appearance was built up since 2012.

At the end of The Avengers, in the wake of Loki’s defeat, the Other told Thanos that to fight Earth was to court death. At this the Mad Titan turned and smiled, making it easy to lose focus on what else was happening in the scene.

In fairness, this wasn’t much. Thanos’ face basically took up half the screen, but the other half showed a desolate and defeated planet in the background. Specifically, this appeared to be a planet that had been ripped, cracked, or broken in half.

Interesting, that seven years before Infinity War, the MCU was already teasing that the Mad Titan would destroy half of the universe. Half of this planet was gone, and in time so would half of the entire universe.
