Of the two post-credits scenes in The Avengers, one began the ball rolling towards the biggest comic book crossover event in history, while the other was there for nothing other than a good laugh. This of course, was the famous shawarma scene.

As already pointed out, Tony only actually noticed the place they went to during the Battle of New York itself, but there was something else many would have missed in the scene. This was likely because of the placement of Captain America’s hand.

The shawarma scene was brought to life as part of reshoots for the movie sometime after initial filming had finished. This meant that when Chris Evans returned, he was sporting the beard he grew to play the role of Curtis in Snowpiercer.

This wasn’t Infinity War, and a bearded Captain America would make no sense, so it was covered up. This was achieved by both Evans’ hand, and a prosthetic jaw, just to make certain that all bases were covered, and nothing interfered with the clean-cut image that was always so synonymous with Captain America.
