With friends like these, who needs enemies?

There is a saying that often rings true in the world of comic book movies, which is that a story is only as good as its villain. While this certainly isn’t the case 100% of the time, the likes of Loki, Killmonger, and Thanos certainly made their movies better than they would have otherwise been.

The villain is always extremely important, as they are the ones that bring the conflict to the story and give the hero something to do, or to fight, but what about those occasions where there is no villain involved at all.

With 27 movies spanning across 14 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become home to a countless gallery of superheroes. Over this span of almost a decade and a half, there have been numerous occasions where such heroes have found cause to fight each other rather than any real bad guy.

Whether this was because they hadn’t quite gelled as a team yet, were forced to fight each other, or just had a momentary lapse in judgement, there is no shortage of heroes beating the hell out of each other in the MCU. Often, these can be even more compelling than a fight between good and evil.

17. Gamora Vs Star-Lord (Avengers: Endgame)

It took time for Gamora and Peter Quill to ever truly get on the same page. She despised him to begin with, claiming he was dishonourable and despicable, and though it took the saving of Xandar together for them to become teammates, their unspoken bond was never acknowledged until after Yondu’s death.

Gamora only ever said ‘I love you’ to Peter just before she was taken away by Thanos, which would ultimately be the last time she ever saw him. This version of Gamora at least, as the two were weirdly reunited in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame.

Though this Peter Quill had been through everything with Gamora, this version of Thanos’ daughter had never met him before. She had just been blasted into 2023 from 2014, and had absolutely no sentimental connections to Star-Lord whatsoever. In fact, she had pretty much the same first impression of him as her original version.

When Peter went to embrace Gamora, who he thought was dead, she kneed him in the groin not once, but twice. She missed the first time, but got both the second time. It wasn’t so much a fight as it was a swift kick to the balls.
