14. Captain America: The First Avenger - Red Skull
In Captain America: The First Avenger, the villain of the Red Skull fitted well with the period-piece setting.
He's a Nazi whose interest in the occult doesn't stray away too much from the true activities of the National Socialist Party during the second world war. He the first character to truly introduce us to the Infinity Stones, and without his character we wouldn't have story aspects that follow.
The insightful knowledge that the super-soldier serum enhances a person's true self is interesting as Captain America is courageous, while Red Skull is madness and malevolence.
As a long-term enemy, he doesn't stick out as much as he should, but within the debut of Captain America he is a force to be reckoned with.
But with his army of Hydra operatives behind him, and the power of the Tesseract (Space Stone) at his fingertips, he's certainly an interesting villain who leaves a mark on the franchise.
