The MCU's fourth phase is still a year or so away from kicking off proper, but Marvel Studios have already been busy at work recruiting directors. Cate Shortland looks set to helm the upcoming Black Widow prequel, and Scott Derrickson is due to return for Doctor Strange 2, but while Marvel currently search for a James Gunn replacement on Guardians 3 (which could even be Gunn himself), attention has shifted to their other untitled productions.

Numerous directors have been shortlisted by fans to work with Marvel in the future, including the likes of Brad Bird, Matthew Vaughn, and Michelle MacLaren, but it looks as though another could be set to enter the fray - Antoine Fuqua.

The director, who has previously helmed such films as Training Day and the remake of The Magnificent Seven, is apparently due to meet Marvel Studios' head honcho Kevin Feige in the coming weeks. In an interview with HeyUGuys, Fuqua discusses previous approaches from Sony for him to direct Morbius, before going on to mention that he'll "take some meetings soon."

"For me it has to be the right one, in the right situation because there’s so much visual effects going on and – ‘Where’s the director in it all?’ I need to understand it because it’s like management…they have a machine, they’ve got people, there’s the design, the whole thing is sketched out[…]Is the director doing that? Or is it a hundred other people?"

The director then name-drops Feige himself, saying:

"I’m going to have a meeting with Kevin [Feige] soon…Just talking.”

Though these discussions are likely to be tentative, Fuqua would be a great fit for Marvel. He's a fine director with great experience in the action genre, and it wouldn't be difficult at all to envision him making the rumoured Moon Knight movie, or perhaps even helming the long-gestating Blade reboot, which Marvel are yet to officially sign off on.
