MCU Phase 4: 5 Comic Book Storylines Marvel Must Avoid
1. Siege
The events of Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War have gone far in establishing Thor as far more than the boring and uninteresting Avenger we had seen in his four prior appearances. Currently one of the MCUs most nuanced and tragic characters, and with his homeland of Asgard in a limbo between being exterminated and thriving elsewhere in the universe, it’s very easy to see Siege becoming a focal point for Phase 4.
Siege, simply put, details Loki manipulating Norman Osborn into leading a siege on Asgard, which is newly arrived in the US. This, on a surface level, seems like a way for the MCU to please a lot of its fans at once. A reason to resurrect Loki? More Thor? A way to save Asgard? Introducing Osborn outside of his done-to-death Green Goblin guise? That sounds like killing four birds with one hammer!
But, considering Ragarok’s humanising of Thor, and Infinity War making him one of the most vulnerable characters in the MCU, adapting Siege would only work to his detriment.
Undoing all the suffering and subsequent growth of Thor following the death of Loki and falling of Asgard would definitely please fans of the Mightiest Avenger, but would be nothing but a letdown following the story of one of Marvel’s most interesting characters.
