MCU: Predicting 10 Fox/Marvel Characters Disney Will Use First
7. Kitty Pryde
When we look ahead to Marvel's likely plans for the X-Men, it's important to look at what was said about their approach to Spider-Man when he came over to the MCU from Sony. The studio's official line very early was that they were going to consciously avoid retreading too much of the same grounds as Sony's previous Spidey movies. They still used fan favourites from the comics, but that distinct difference has been part of the whole creative process. It's likely they'll do some of that with their approach to mutants.
With rumours of a Ms Marvel movie and Marvel actively seeking more female-led properties, Kitty Pryde ticks all boxes and it's hard to overestimate how much of a fanbase the character had when she was introduced in the 80s. She's still one of the most popular and underused X-Men characters in movie terms, and an X-Men movie centred on her initially would be a logical (and smart) move.
Interestingly, despite rumours of the cancellation of Fox's already-announced Kitty Pryde movie, Brian Michael Bendis took to Twitter to confirm that it's still in active early production:
Quite what that means at this stage is anyone's guess, but Disney are already more than at the table when it comes to thee Fox/Marvel characters. They will know what is being worked on, and there's no way they wouldn't have consciously killed anything that didn't fit in with their plans. No matter how tentative those plans might currently be.
