Michael Bay – Ranking His Films From Worst To Best

2. Armageddon

Armageddon was a real watershed moment for Bay; it was the film that typecast him as the director of bombastic blockbusters and made sure he€™d never get a good review by critics ever again. It€™s the pinnacle of his leave your brain at the door style; the movie is flashy, noisy nonsense but it's so much fun most people don€™t care. It was an explosive update of the late seventies disaster movies Bay grew up on, and features what has to be one of the most nonsensical ideas for a story ever; would it truly be easier to trains oil drillers to become astronauts than the other way around? The only way to watch it is to accept the stupidity and embrace it for being the big, cheesy male weepie that it really is. Sure the romance between Affleck and Tyler is horrible (two words: animal crackers), and the theme sound makes you regret being able to hear, but the cast is a ton of fun, the action is epic and you get swept up in the adventure despite your brain trying to stop you.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
