Michael Bay – Ranking His Films From Worst To Best

11. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Despite their huge success, the Transformers movies have always been critical whipping boys, with constant complaints being levelled at their excessive running times, obnoxious characters and lack of coherent action scenes. While Bay has never been a critical darling, he deserves every ounce of scorn for Revenge Of The Fallen, which is a truly rotten example of blockbuster filmmaking. How rotten? Well, both Bay and Shia LaBeouf have apologised for it in subsequent interviews, laying the blame on a script that was written in a hurry. While the weak screenplay certainly didn't help, the real blame must be laid at Bay€™s feet. His sense of humour is that of a thirteen-year-old boy, resulting in cringe-worthy scenes like LaBeouf€™s parents getting high, the Transformer with balls or the infamous Skids and Mudflap robots. All the characters are hateful jerks; the action is an incoherent blur of robots punching each other and it even looks ugly, with the orange and teal cranked up so high that LaBeouf resembles a carrot in some scenes. The film is an aggressive assault on the senses, and even by the low standards of the franchise, Revenge Of The Fallen is comfortably the worst.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
