5. Joe Clark - Lean On Me
Lean on Me originally exposed us to the crazy true story of Joe Clark, a school principal with radical methods as he rids the school of drug dealers and criminals in an effort to graduate the students. Freeman, in the lead, is powerful and the most dominating he has ever been as he takes over the screen and forces you to pay attention. Lean on Me is similar to the 2005 movie, Coach Carter with Freeman doing a similar performance to what Samuel L Jackson creates in that movie. All of Freeman's strengths are on show in Lean on Me, and whilst the movie is a true story, it's fundamentally cliched, but that doesn't matter when the piece is this well acted. Freeman is the heart and soul of the movie, and whilst this is a movie mostly overlooked by modern audiences, it's a great character driven piece that fully deserves two hours of your time.
