Morgan Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

4. The Cliched Third Act

Morgan Anna Taylor Joy
Fox

Regrettably, the film goes wildly off the rails in its third act, devolving from a mildly intriguing sci-fi thriller into a straight-up slasher movie, as Morgan inevitably goes haywire and those who remain try to bring her down (that's not a spoiler: it's straight up in the trailers).

It's the least imaginative, most predictable path the film could've taken, and makes it even tougher to care about what's going on. Sure, it's at least more lively and exciting than the leaden first half, but it feels lazy and driven by commercial concerns rather than thought-provoking ideas.
