Mortal Kombat 2021 Movie: Everything We Know

6. The Writers

Mortal Kombat's screenplay was written by two writers, Greg Russo and Dave Callaham, the former being a newcomer to the industry. Alongside Mortal Kombat, he's writing scripts for a Resident Evil reboot, a Space Invaders movie and a Saints Row movie! It would seem that Greg Russo has a preference for video game based titles and is certainly keeping himself busy.

David Callaham has more credits to his name, including Doom (2005), The Expendables (2010) and even Wonder Woman 1984 (2020). Doom was poorly received by fans of the franchise so fingers crossed that Callaham is able to redeem himself in the eyes of fans and help write a script that is more faithful to its source material than Doom was.

It'll be interesting to see how the writers handle such a large cast of characters, giving them all enough screentime to be memorable and stand out from one another. Making sure the characters are accurately translated to the big screen is arguably one of the most crucial elements to this film's success, as fans are likely to disappointed if their favourite characters are butchered.
