New blood needed if Silent Hill 2 is to go ahead

silenthill1.jpgAround18 months ago, I was putting my hopes on Silent Hill being the video game movie adaptation that would break out from the 'video games don't make good movies' mentality. Unfortunately when I got to Silent Hill in the cinema, the movie was a huge disappointment, so the wait was once again on for a video game movie to blow me away. Hitman, I thought would be that movie but the closer we get to that movie's release, the worse it is looking. Hitman no longer looks like it will be the one. But that's another story for another time no doubt. Silent Hill had an awesome atmosphere but it fell down on the story and character development. Stunning visuals but not a lot of substance and a third act which was criminal for a horror flick. Would I be interested in a sequel? Absolutely not. The news from Shock Till You Drop is that screenwriter Roger Avary and director Christophe Gans aren't interested in a sequel either. If Silent Hill 2 is to go ahead it will need some new blood. The original made just short of $100 million worldwide on a budget of $50 million. Not bad at all and it's more than enough profit for a sequel to be contemplated, but how many of those who went to see the original who would want to return for a sequel is another matter entirely.
