20 Awesome Recent Horror Movies That Flopped At The Box Office
13. Arcadian
The post-apocalyptic horror film may be a wildly oversaturated subgenre, but Arcadian was a breath of fresh air when it released back in 2024.
This low-key effort, focused on a father (Nicolas Cage) trying to protect his two sons from monstrous creatures, is more concerned with its compelling family dynamic than goopy gore and action-packed set-pieces.
With its airy atmosphere, stellar Nic Cage performance, and distinctively uncanny monster design, Arcadian is a tightly paced, modest little horror flick punching well above its weight.
But even with RLJE Films sending it into over 1,000 U.S. cinemas, it grossed just $1.2 million worldwide.
Even accepting that Cage isn't the bonafide box office draw he once was, that's a bleak number for a well-received entry into one of the most commercially consistent of all film genres.
Perhaps the movie's more unassuming nature simply left most waiting to catch it on streaming.
