20 Announced Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected

There's no denying that The Simpsons is one of the most iconic TV shows of all time, though it's also fair to say that it peaked in both quality and popularity a long time ago.

Though 2007's The Simpsons Movie was a major box office success, the sheer amount of resources it took to get the movie made combined with the lack of a speedy sequel announcement left many fans assuming it would likely be a one-off experiment.

But last September, 20th Century Studios announced that The Simpsons 2 was in fact happening, with a theatrical release later set for September 3, 2027.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how a new Simpsons movie performs at the box office considering how far the IP's popularity has waned over the last 20 years, but all the same, there just might be enough Simpsons nostalgia out there for the sequel to make a dent.
