One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie
20. Sunburnt Eyes - Black Panther
No matter how big the film, the kind of scene being played out, where it is taking place, or any other detail that may change, there is invariably nothing as important on a movie set as the safety of the actors and those around them.
By now, the industry has got pretty good at reducing risks, even with someone like Tom Cruise who insists on clinging on to planes during take off and the like. However, some dangers don't actually present themselves until it is too late.
This was the case on the set of Black Panther. One of the most iconic locations in Wakanda was the Warrior Falls, where T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) first fought M'Baku (Winston Duke) for the throne, and then fought Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). The fights took place in six inches of water and left the actors with noticeably red, sore eyes, to the point that Daniel Kaluuya had to be taken to the ER.
Turns out it was nothing to do with the PH levels of the water, there was nothing harmful in there, and it was perfectly safe in itself. It was actually the harsh lighting reflecting off the water, literally causing the actors to get sunburnt eyes. Sunglasses then had to be worn between takes, but it will take a lot more than that, even just to forget the horrific thought of sunburn of the eyeballs.
