Oscar Nominations 2024: 8 Ups & 9 Downs
6. SNUB: Killers Of The Flower Moon (Best Actor & Adapted Screenplay)
On the face of it, Killers of the Flower Moon is certainly positioned well for the Oscars, given that with 10 nominations to its name it became this year's third most-nominated movie behind only Oppenheimer and Poor Things.
But Martin Scorsese's meaty crime epic was nevertheless snubbed in two unexpected areas.
Firstly, Leonardo DiCaprio failed to secure a Best Actor nomination, with his slot likely being taken by Colman Domingo (Rustin), and even more surprisingly, it didn't receive a Best Adapted Screenplay nod.
While the screenplay categories are routinely stacked year-in and year-out, it's tough to believe that so many voters felt Killers was less deserving of a nomination here than Barbie above all else.
And more tellingly, Killers missing in this key category puts a serious dent in its Best Picture chances moving forward - but more on that later.
