Oscars: 10 Worst Films Ever Nominated

9. Batman Forever (Best Sound Editing & Best Sound Mixing)

Batman Forever The first part in the Schumacher Batman era and a film that while not terrible signals that worse really was to come. After the gloomy, dark tone that Tim Burton used in transforming the understandably campy Batman of the 1960€™s, Schumacher decided that campy would probably work again in the mid-90€™s. With Val Kilmer, who admittedly does a decent job, as The Dark Knight and Chris O€™Donnell as Robin, the film pits them against The Riddler, played brilliantly by the always over the top Jim Carrey and Two-Face, played by Tommy Lee Jones. It certainly is a strange film in that it really doesn€™t know where it wants to go, it grabs at the edges of exploring Bruce Wayne as a tortured character, but instead, the majority of that was cut for silly action sequences and corny romances with the forgettable Nicole Kidman. While commercially successful, the film received lukewarm reviews from critics who didn€™t like the more family friendly tone the series had taken after Batman Returns. However, Batman Forever received two Academy Award nominations, for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. The film is better than the sequel Batman & Robin, but that really isn€™t saying much as Batman & Robin nearly destroyed the comic book adaptation forever until Christopher Nolan rescued in from obscurity and turned the Batman series into a critical and commercial success. Good luck to whoever has to follow that.
