Oscars 2014: 17 Unfair Snubs The Academy Got Completely Wrong

2 & 1. Captain Phillips - Best Actor (Tom Hanks) & Best Cinematography

And we now get to the single biggest snub of the Oscars this year, and that's failing to nominate Tom Hanks for his transcendent performance in Captain Phillips. Considering how well the performance has been faring on the circuit, Hanks was widely considered a "lock", yet in true Oscar style, nothing is really certain until it's certain, and he was edged out by a decidedly less-memorable performance from Christian Bale in American Hustle. Can anyone look at his final scene in Captain Phillips, stunned with shock as he is, and not think that he deserves the nomination? Ridiculous. Then there's the lack of a Best Cinematography nomination for a beautifully realised film, particularly during the logistically complicated action sequences near the end of the film, which we can only assume were surprisingly beaten to the punch by The Grandmaster. As with every year, we all have our own takes on what was and wasn't snubbed, so feel free to make your own rant in the comments!
