Rayon was struggling with a cocaine addiction along with the hardships of living a life diagnosed with AIDS, but his death still comes with great sympathy. Especially considering that he dies from doctors injecting more AZT into his bloodstream, which Ron is staunchly against, preaching that the medication does more harm than good. Naturally, when Ron realizes that his one true companion in his difficult new life is now dead, he goes ballistic, storming into the hospital and ignoring all security, grabbing doctors by the throat, violently exclaiming that they killed Rayon. As he is carried away by security, he continues sounding off by advising patients not to let doctors pump AZT into them. The compassionate anger that Matthew McConaughey brings to the scene is highly intense. This scene may only last a good 30 seconds, but it is the defining moment of the performance.
