4. Inside Llewyn Davis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFphYRyH7wc The Coen Brothers have been killing it recently; from 2007 to 2010, the pair's films received three Best Picture nominations, and with their ability to turn seemingly inaccessible material (A Serious Man) into Academy-friendly fare, one imagines they'll have no problem making a prestige pic out of this story of a singer-songwriter trying to make his way in New York's 1960s folk music scene. This could mark a real career leap for Oscar Isaac, who first came to prominence in Nicholas Winding Refn's Drive, and will be looking to scoop possible Best Actor honours here. The supporting cast is mightily impressive too, including Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Justin Timberlake, and Garrett Hedlund. Preview screening reports suggest they're onto another winner; expect the film to make a splash at Cannes in May.
