Oscars 2014: Ranking Best Pictures From Worst To Best

3. The Wolf Of Wall Street

Nobody explores anti-heroes and corrupted men like Martin Scorsese. He takes characters that would wholly disgust us in real life, and completely glamorises them into loveable criminals. The Wolf of Wall Street is no exception, and gets absolutely filthy diving into greed, hedonism, drug abuse, and more unsavory elements that are commonly associated with the proverbial American Dream. And who better to chronicle all the madness than Scorsese€™s current muse, Leonardo DiCaprio in a role that completely unhinges him, allowing him to reveal even more range. DiCaprio is a nonstop blitzkrieg of energy that helps the mammoth running time of 179 minutes fly by. Every time he takes the stage to fuel his fellow greedy stockbrokers with misguided ambition, he gives the audience a hefty boost of adrenaline too. The supporting cast also plays a pivotal part in making the film as outrageous and memorable as it is. Everyone from Jonah Hill to Matthew McConaughey, to Rob Reiner, to Margot Robbie, and all in between deserve praise for fearlessly tackling all of the obscene material presented. With that said, we€™re reaching a point where the remaining films are essentially flawless. Whittling down and ranking these top three was tough, but ultimately the rest are more important films that leave a stronger impression.
