Oscars 2016 Nominations: 15 Insane Shocks & Snubs

6. Shock: Charlotte Rampling For Best Actress

Though 45 Years has quietly been one of the best-reviewed films of the year, there wasn't much hope for the slight drama picking up any Oscar nods given its low-flying nature. Still, the actors' branch decided to nominate Charlotte Rampling for her superbly subtle work in the film as an aging woman who finds out a dark secret about her husband from decades prior. It's terrific work and, considering that it's the best performance of Rampling's career, a very well-deserved if surprising nod all the same.
