Oscars 2018: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

17. Sound Mixing

Star Wars The Last Jedi Crait
Lucasfilm

Nominees: Baby Driver, Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk, The Shape Of Water, Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Who Should Win

Dunkirk

As already covered, Dunkirk does an incredible job of creating its explosive sound, but it does an even better job of mixing them all together and perfectly combining them with Hans Zimmer's score. The music and sound distort your senses, heightens emotions, and helps create the sheer immersion that Dunkirk offers you, placing you right in the heart of the searing action.

Who Will Win

Dunkirk

Although the two Sound awards don't always go the same way, when there's such a huge movie like this it's more likely to do so, as seen in recent years with Mad Max: Fury Road and Gravity. The fact Dunkirk has a score nomination helps too, along with its probable win in the Sound Editing category, and it means it should really stand out to voters here, with its only hurdle being the fact it's a summer movie.
